The Waiting Room

Whether we are sick and need to go to the doctor, in need of a hair-do, or our car needs to be serviced, we have to make an appointment and show up at our scheduled time. It never seems to fail that even when we have an appointment, we are still required to wait. During this wait, we often pick up a magazine to read, fiddle with our cellular phone, or just sit. After some time we begin to get a bit anxious, wondering when our time will come.

This is how we sometimes feel in our spiritual life. We pray for something to happen in our lives and then we wait on the Lord to show up and answer our prayers. However, sometimes during the wait we tend to get a bit impatient, wondering did God really hear our prayers, and if he did, when exactly is he going to show up.
I call to my mind the many different times I’ve prayed to God to present to me the man he had set aside for me. A God- fearing man, one whose heart loved the Lord just as I did, and one who knew his role as a Christian man. I prayed this prayer for 2 ½ years. Early on, I said “Lord I surrender this area of my life to you. I haven’t always made the best of choices in this area, so I trust you to do this for me.” I thought because I said the words, that this man would just appear. He didn’t. What did occur though was the Lord began working on me. I was very frustrated. I began to wrestle with the Lord. I asked questions and I questioned his timing. The Lord waited patiently for me to stop asking questions and allow him to do his work. After some time, I finally said, “Lord, I’m ready to do this your way.” Then the work began. He began showing myself to me, he began teaching me who he was, and he also showed me areas that were stagnant that needed to be revived. He changed me from the inside out. This was a process that took time. It’s a never ending process, but there was a place the Lord needed me to be before he could present me with the man of my dreams. He was preparing ME for HIM!!! I’m glad I didn’t get too impatient and quit in my waiting room. I allowed the Lord to teach, and I was the student. Because of this, the Lord blessed me with a wonderful person. Not only did he give me what I asked for, he gave me so much more. More than I could’ve imagined.

Even in the waiting rooms of life, trust God and his timing. Trust that even though it may appear he doesn’t know what he’s doing, that he DOES!! In the waiting room, God just wants us to draw closer to him so that he can reveal himself to us in a bigger way!!

“Wait on the Lord, Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart; WAIT, I say, on the Lord” (Psalm 27:14)

  1. Urs...that was very inspirational. Often times I find myself going through life sometimes even forgetting to put God first in my decision making process or even subconciously exclude him all together. As I continue to develop my relationship with God I believe your words will serve as a source of better understanding and clarification, so thank you! I am so proud you babe!

  2. Thank you Urs, for yet another eye opening inspirational post. I too am in a similar situation, and waiting on the Lord has become so routine for me. As we know, God is working on His time table not ours and He is always "Right On Time" I know my prayers will be answered and no matter how long it takes for those answers to be revealed, I will continue to wait patiently on Him. He knows me better than I know myself, and He knows what is best for me. Thank you...

  4. Wow!!! I am honored that you would say such things!!! I love the title of this passage, "The Waiting Room". It is the place that we go to in a hospital while people have surgery, be seen by the doctor, or even better, giving birth. The content of the passage, or the life experience you shared with us, shows that god performed some reconstructive surgery on you, and while he was working, you were in "The Waiting Room"!! I love it. Very very profound!!! Keep operating in your passion as that is liberating to yourself and others!!! God Bless you!!!(Jonathan)
